START AN EMPIRE:TEAM#1
The Empire Builders
8 Brooklyn based entrepreneurs between the ages of 15-23, entitled, Crown Collective, accepted the Start an Empire business challenge in March - 2016
The Challenge
They were given the challenge of learning how to start a business by actually launching a business in 10 weeks in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. They wasted no time and got right to work.
The Plan
With the support of business experts, the 8 entrepreneurs learned about product development, marketing, finance and operations. With this information they created a plan to address a need that they identified in their Brooklyn communities; a lack of outlets for young creatives to showcase, market and sell their work.
The Business Project
The group formed the Brooklyn Creative Market, a pop up shop experience for young entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their creative work, from art, fashion, food, photography music and more. The first annual Brooklyn Creative Market took place on June 4th at the Brooklyn Children's Museum (rooftop).
The vendors

The Profits and prize
All of the vendor fees went toward the startup costs of the 8 participants individual businesses in the project and toward a local charity Save our Streets
The 8 participants also pitched their business ideas in front of a panel of judges and one of them won $1,000 for their startup
